(right, some pictures from Lancelin from Yorick's camera, and one from a terrace in Jurien Bay. He has less time for his picture editing because he drives while I edit and write these posts.
After our incredible sea lion snorkel in Jurien Bay, we hit the road once again, making our way north to Kalbarri.
Along the way, we stopped at the Pink Lakes, a surreal sight with their bubblegum-coloured waters stretching to the horizon. The colour comes from algae and salt levels, creating this almost otherworldly effect. Up close, the edges of the lake were crusted with thick layers of salt, and the contrast between the pink water and the bright blue sky made for some incredible photos—definitely worth pulling over for!
The next morning in Kalbarri, we woke up early to catch the daily pelican feed. Watching these massive birds waddle up for their breakfast was entertaining, but the real star of the show was a pelican nicknamed ‘Naughty Boy’. Unlike the others, who typically move on after a few months, Naughty Boy has decided he likes the easy life and has stuck around far longer than usual. He also has a habit of nibbling (a lot) on the girl feeding them, which made for a hilarious sight. They only give the pelicans a few fish each day, just enough to keep the tradition going while ensuring they still hunt naturally.

With the temperature hitting a scorching 38°C, we made sure to stock up on water before heading to Kalbarri National Park. Our first stop was the Skywalk, offering breathtaking views over the rugged landscape. Then we made our way to Nature’s Window, an iconic rock formation that perfectly frames the view beyond. It was stunning—but even at 11 AM, the heat was intense, and we were swarmed by what felt like 10,000 flies. Let’s just say, a fly net would have been a wise investment.
Now, we’re on the road again, heading toward Monkey Mia for more adventures. Driving through the vast outback, we’ve already spotted more than one sand twister spiraling across the road—just another reminder of how wild and unpredictable this landscape can be.
I’m writing this with very spotty 4G, so it’s been pieced together bit by bit, but stay tuned—there’s plenty more to come! 🚐💨
What an amazing, unearthly place! Enjoy and thanks for sharing :)
