The Brahminy kite, also known as thered-backed sea-eagle, is a striking bird of prey commonly found in northern Australia. With its distinctive chestnut and white plumage, it primarily hunts fish and scavenges along coastal and riverine habitats. Known for its strong soaring abilities, the Brahminy kite is often seen gliding over mangroves, estuaries, and coastal plains in search of food.

Least Concern (Population decreasing)

Fun Fact:

Brahminy kites are known to "steal" food from other birds, including larger raptors, using their agility and speed to snatch prey mid-air—a behaviour known as kleptoparasitism!
